- How do I get Started?.
The simplest way to start is after joining the membership, edit one of the existing sample wall or slab projects. Input
the pour dimensions of your project. Then, proceed to the slab or wall project to calculate the design. If you know what
products you want to use, select those in the calculation stage. If you do not know what products to use, proceed to the
material library and enter locally available prices. Once pricing is entered, re-enter the projects walls or slabs and do not select
any material. All material combinations will be considered and lowest cost system will be provided.
- How do customize my library?
You can add virtually any material to your libary if you know the structural properties. Input pricing based on local rates.
Structural properties for sheathing are based on a 12" wide strip. Allowable bending (Fb) properties and Modulus of Elasticity (ME) properties
are functions of the material type. Therefore different types of wood will have different values. Steel and aluminum products
are typically manufactured and values should be available from the manufacturer.
Moment of Inertia, Im, calculated by:
Im = BH3/12, where B is base in inches and H is height in inches
Section Modulus, Sm, is calculated by:
Sm = Im / c, where c is the distance from the centroid of the cross section to the outside edge.
The Design Concrete Formwork team is available to help provide guidance and assistance for new materials members may desire to utilize.
- Is there any limit to the number of design calculations I may perform within my membership period?
Members have unlimited use and unlimited number of design facilitations within the subscription period.
- Can I design stair formwork?
Formwork for concrete stairs can be approximated by using a suspended slab analysis. Simply use the plan dimensions of
the proposed stair design as a suspended slab.
